Hawthorne Colonial Revival: A Tampa Kitchen Remodel
In the heart of South Tampa Bay, the Hawthorne Colonial Revival project blends timeless architectural charm with modern functionality. Completed in the Fall of 2024, this Tampa kitchen remodel—with a small bump-out addition—transformed an outdated kitchen into a bright and inviting space.
The Plan
When the homeowners purchased this Colonial-style home in 2016, they loved its charm but found that the kitchen did not fit their lifestyle. Over the years, they made small updates, but were ready for a more permanent solution.
They dreamed of a kitchen space that not only worked better for daily life but also provided room for a cozy sitting area to enjoy morning coffee. The existing kitchen’s small peninsula and limited overhang left little space for barstools, and the room could only accommodate a petite bistro table.
That’s when they turned to us to bring their dream kitchen to life. After following our work on social media, the homeowners knew we were the right team to manage the entire process with custom solutions—from initial design through to the final touches—as their trusted design-build contractor.
Bumps in the Road
This project presented its fair share of challenges. The bump-out addition required careful engineering in order to tie into the existing structure while maintaining the Colonial Revival charm.
Key exterior features, like intricate trim and window placements, needed to be preserved or adapted so the addition would look as though it had always been part of the home. By carefully matching materials and architectural details, we created a final product that honored the home’s original character.
Stand Out Features
One of the kitchen’s standout design elements is the beautiful range and hood. The pop of color creates a focal point without throwing the Colonial-inspired palette out of balance.
The new bump-out addition was another favorite, housing a cozy sitting area, complete with oversized windows that flood the space with natural light. It’s the perfect nook for savoring a quiet moment over coffee or tea!

Our Favorite Part
For our team, the most rewarding part of this project was blending old and new. Making sure that the bump-out addition looked like the original structure was a challenge we loved taking on, and the end result speaks for itself!
From custom cabinetry to carefully curated finishes, every detail was designed to reflect the warmth and timelessness of Colonial architecture. We thoughtfully (and meticulously) preserved the home’s heart and soul while making it fully functional for a twenty-first-century family.
